We didn’t know what was wrong at first.I’ll never forget watching our 7-year-old daughter’s soccer game, realizing she was shrinking out of her uniform. She was losing weight, even though we were feeding her more and more to try to get her weight up. Something just felt… off.A few days later, after a trip to urgent care, we were packing a bag for the ER. It was overwhelming.I didn't even know there were 2 types of diabetes, and how serious type 1 was.By the time we left the hospital a week later, we had a whole new life to figure out.That week was a blur of sleepless nights, finger pricks, painful injections, insulin math, and trying to hold it together for our daughter.We pushed down our fear just to keep going.Two weeks later, at home, it hit. The grief, the exhaustion, the weight of this new reality. We completely broke.And then we got back up. Not because we were strong, or brave...because we had no other choice.Since then, we’ve learned to live with it. The tech helps. The routines help. She’s strong and resilient. But it still sucks. Even a sleepover can bring back the fear. It never really goes away.Our lives are filled with medical gear, sensors, pumps, needles, insulin. We deal with highs and lows daily... and nightly, on blood sugar charts, and life challenges.But somehow, it's brought us closer.I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve texted my daughter:“hey, are you on the low?”That check-in became a rhythm, a way to say I see you. I’ve got you.
